I ship production software that automates tedious processes I experience personally, which other people and myself now depend on.
Not mock-ups. One of them runs the bar at a five-star Sydney hotel during function nights requiring EFTPOS transactions for beverage orders, with real money going through it and other staff members relying on it. The other I built for myself, to learn the sales process by building the tooling it runs on. Outside it I put my own time into AI: where the current models genuinely help, where they do not, and how to build with them rather than around them.

In serviceiPad POS at banquet bars. Two-tap sale built for speed in the dark, offline-first, and an end-of-day close that reconciles the app’s card totals against the printed EFTPOS settlement. It never touches the terminal: the card type is read off the printed receipt and keyed in by hand. Transaction cost is displayed to the bartender, reducing the chance of unintentionally charging guests incorrectly. In the past, this process required hand writing the order on each receipt and tallying everything at the end of service.

I run the bar in Conference & Events banquets, and pick up shifts in other departments when the events calendar is quiet. Club Millésime is one of those other departments: Accor’s VIP guests, where the service is personal and you get to know people and a part of the job I really enjoy. A move into the hotel’s Conference & Events Sales team is in motion, so the next stretch is learning the sales process and transitioning into the cyber security sales engineer field.

HD 86 · Communication
A high distinction in Communication for IT Professionals, taken inside a technical degree. The subject runs on the Engineers Without Borders Challenge: a team of six, a cultural rest stop designed for Yirrganydji Country in far north Queensland, written up as a formal report for the community it was meant to serve rather than for engineers. I wrote the executive summary and the case for the design opportunity. As well as designing our proposal in SketchUp (Which I had never used beforehand).

A briefing document and formal speech, produced with a group of five and delivered to Microsoft as the industry partner. The question was how AI can be used to promote human flourishing. My group's topic was on how to introduce AI into education without eroding the critical thinking it is supposed to support, and we argued it against Copilot specifically. Weekly annotated reading of peer-reviewed research fed the final report, and the speech was marked on how clearly we put it across and how we handled questions from the room. The structure was not left to instinct either: we built the pitch on SCQA and the Minto Pyramid, so the recommendation lands first and the evidence sits underneath it holding it up, which is the same shape any technical argument needs when the person listening has ten minutes and a decision to make.

Tropical Data Science School at Universiti Sains Malaysia, alongside students from my own cohort I had never met before. Working with statistics and modelling in JMP, R and TensorFlow; and presented a final group project built into a Tableau dashboard to the cohort at the close. It was my first time travelling overseas on my own and I went in nervous about it. I came home with new friendships across the cohort, so many great memories, and a new outlook on life in stepping outside of my comfort zone.
